Dr William Price
Woodcut print, edition of 50
Image size 50x40cm
Dr William Price was born into abject poverty in Rudry. He went on to study medicine in London before returning to Wales and becoming a Chartist. A convinced leftist, he was an early proponent of socialised medicine, providing healthcare for free for those who couldn't afford to pay. Exiled in France after the Chartist uprising, he had visions he could free Wales from English rule. Convinced the clergy had subjugated the Welsh spirit, he became a practitioner of paganism. A nudist, environmentalist and animal rights activist, committed socialist, shaman and visionary, William was a Welsh person to be proud of.
