Gwyn Ap Nudd
Print of Y Seicopomp Cymreig, Gwyn ap Nudd, and his hounds, Cŵn Annwn
A psychopomp is a guide of the souls of the dead, sometimes benign, sometimes not. Hades and the grim reaper are possibly the most famous European examples, but old Gwyn gives them a run for their money. There are lots of different interpretations of him and his role and it changed over time, from a ferocious hunter and warrior in the Welsh Arthurian stories, to the king of the Tylwyth Teg and almost a trickster figure.
